Tiffany & Co Inspired Hutch

It's Done! I completed my Tiffany & Company Inspired Hutch! And folks I don't know what could be more Fancy Frugal than thrift store T&C!! Ha.

I never really knew what to put in here. We've had it for about 5 years and 3 different moves.
I always put family photos, wine glasses, candles, ect. The other day I was sitting in the room and it felt so dark. It doesn't have much natural light and our furniture is dark so I was thinking about what I could do to make it lighter and brighter....

I could paint it....but what color? The walls are renter's beige, and then it wouldn't match our table, and TV Hutch. So that's out.

Then I thought what if I took everything out and replaced with all white dishes and accessories? OK now we're talkin! I love that look.

Yep you know where this is from...

Awe lets all drool :)

Pretty pricey I'm sure. I didn't even look. I'm pretty sure I'd be stressed out about breakage if I had the real thing anyway. I'm clumsy and I have two small kids. This equals lots of breakage!

So I off I went to the oh so glam Goodwill and picked up a bunch of white dishware and accessories.

See $.99!!

Then I bought a bunch of heavy card stock paper in this color :)

Remember my last post on those fab beauties I painted white? Read that here
I also picked up these letters at Hob Lob on clearance for $1 and painted them white. See painting things white is addicting!

Lastly I saw a post recently about how to glam things up with vintage bling from The Poka Dot Closet

I didn't have any vintage but I found some $2.25 sale bling for Hob Lob! I attached these with E6000 glue to the middle of a few plates.

The one I am most excited about is the clock! That is so T&C for sure!! You know the one I'm reffering to.

My hubby said the black ones look like the Steelers logo so now I'm not a fan. Ha ha. Oh well.

Lets see the finished product up close. I love love love it.
The paper is just double taped to the back of the hutch. I have commitment issues to colors so this is great if I want to change it again.

The crystal box is real and was a Christmas gift from my sweet dad many years ago. He used to give me T&C coins as gifts to use as store credit. I have always saved it and love having it around. I did spend the coins a long time ago...sigh :)

Not bad for about $30 worth of thrift finds, right?! The random bird thingy was a good Ross steal at $9.00. I sprayed the top white, and just love it!

Hope you like!!

I Can't Stop Painting Things White

So I may have a problem. I can't stop spray painting things! I am ADDICTED! It's like magic and makes everything shiny and new!!

Here are a few thrift store items I picked up yesterday at Goodwill and already brought them back to life! Yep I am in love with the Goodwill we just moved next to. Ha ha

Here is what I found.

A cool decorative gold box, 3 candle holders and a vintage serving bowl with neat handle. I am new to thrift-ing so I don't know the correct terms for things yet! Ha.

And then with the magic of spray paint, they are transformed!!

I am revamping my current hutch with all white items so these will work out fabulous...and only $10.00 for all these plus spray paint!

Stay tuned for my Tiffany & Co inspired revamp on my hutch! I am super excited about that project!

Goodwill Mantle

When we recently moved into this house with a mantle I thought it was kinda hard to decide what to put on it! I think it's just so much pressure. I would change it around every day thinking something it isn't right.
Well I think I finally got it right!
Before

After

I picked up this mirror (already painted) for $9.00 at Goodwill. It's a really heavy beveled mirror! Have you noticed how much new mirrors are lately?! Geesh.
The plate I had and the flower I had. Then this cute pine cone was $3.00 at Goodwill. It was brown so I sprayed it cream and rubbed off around the edges a little. It looks so Pottery Barn, right?!

Silhouettes

I remember doing silhouettes in elementary school with the old fashioned projector light on the chalk board.

I wanted to try a more updated look for my kids. Read a tutorial here on how to do that with paint.net. To be honest I could do step 1 and 2 and then was stuck so then what? Well after about an hour messing with it I called my brother and he did it in 30 seconds with Photoshop! Ha ha. Thanks Ryan :)

I'm sure you all are better with computers and can do this no problem!

Take a profile photo of the kiddos

(I had to bribe with M&Ms...see she's holding them..lol)

and use an editing software to take out the background layer and make the silhouette black. I actually used dark brown on mine.

Then I found some cute frames at Hobby Lobby for 10.00 each and glued the silhouettes on top of scrapbook paper.

And there you go!

Here's how it looks in the hall bathroom :)

I think these would also make such great gifts!

Elmo Birthday Party

I just love a good at home birthday party! Today I started to think about my daughter's 3rd birthday. I can't believe she will be 3! Yikes! Where does the time go?! She has very clearly said she wants a Dora party over and over :)

Its kind of tough to make a character theme party cute. I dislike the party store's generic supplies. Plus they are expensive! I have to admit I did go that route for my son's recent Transformer's party. He wanted to do a bowling party and it's hard to make those guys cute!

Here are a few details from last year's Elmo party for my little girl.

I hot glued feathers to the Elmo hats to add a little glam.

Those invites were dollar store blank cards with ribbon and a paper flower from Michael's glued on.

For the banner I cut out two sizes of circles and glued on letters to decorative scrapbook paper. Punch a hole and tie with matching ribbon.

Those tissue paper poms are great for birthdays! Here is a great tutorial for them here

I put them over the kid table we rented. By the way the kid table was only $25 and well worth it!

I bought the Elmo party tags on http://www.etsy.com/ and tied them to the favor bags. The pillow dress was from etsy also.

The sign is a canvass found on clearance from Michael's. I glued scrapbook paper, ribbon, and feather boa to it, along with the birthday girl's picture!

Finally, my father sent an Elmo to surprise the party! It was a little scary for some, but my daughter eventually warmed up at the end :)

Felt Ruffle Heart Wreath

I love ruffles and I love red so when I saw this wreath it was love at first sight!!

The inspiration I saw is from the The Idea Room. She has a great tutorial.

Here's how mine turned out.

I put it on the window above my kitchen sink because lets face it..I am standing there alot! And if I open the blinds I have a view of a nice block wall. This is much better!!!

Basically I just used an ikea kids cup and traced a bunch of circles on 1/2 yard of red felt.

Then you fold the circles in half and then quarters. Pin the pointy bottom to the foam.

I went to 3 places to find a heart foam wreath and no one had it. Good thing Hobby Lobby, JoAnne's, and Michael's are located in the same shopping center in my neighborhood! Yep.

So I just bought a piece of foam from the floral department and cut out my own heart.

It was time consuming and took two naptimes, but I love the result!!

My baby girl loved it too!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Shabby Chic Glam Room Reveal

It's Done! My 2 year old's Big Girl Room is done!!

Here it is......

I walk by this room and it makes me smile. :)

Part of the reason I wanted to start this blog was to prove you don't have to spend a fortune to make your home amazing.

This room is collection of Goodwill finds, Craigslist, Ross, HomeGoods, Target, and things I already had from her nursery. Plus maybe a splurge on that beautiful tea cup vintage chandelier! Read about that here. Everything including the furniture was around $500. Not too bad, right?

That fuzzy pink phone was a Goodwill bargain at $4.00! She calls people all the time from there, and we don't even have a land line!
The vinyl on the wall is from an etsy store found here. Installing it wasn't as easy as we thought. My hubby is great at measuring so he did this project for me!!

This beautiful antique bed was my first real antique purchase from my fav store Not Too Shabby, also where that tea cup chandelier was purchased. The bed has a beautiful mural on both the front and back.

Wondering about the cute ruffle bedding? $29.00 from HomeGoods!!
The toile chase chair is the cutest place for her to read books! Found that at a local used furniture store.

Finally, people used to say Lily looked just like a cupie doll when she was a baby. I had no idea what one was until my fav Mother In Law gave her one as a gift! And she actually did resemble one. So here is a cute way to display her cupie!

I hope you enjoyed :)
