Vintage Suitcase "Honeymoon Fund" Wedding Decor

A few months ago I shared with you my little brother is getting married. Here is the happy couple. Aren't they are the CUTEST!?

With just a couple months until the big day, wedding plans are full speed ahead. I am thrilled to help out with the decorations for their Sedona outdoor event with a combo vintage/farm feel. The colors will be all neutral creams, whites, and beiges since the beautiful colors of Sedona will be the backdrop. In fact I've been collecting quite the inspiation board on Pinterest for this wedding. Click here to see it if you'd like.

I found this sweet vintage aqua & cream colored suitcase at Goodwill , a feel weeks ago, for $10 and knew it would be perfect to set on the gift table. The couple is saving their money for a honeymoon this spring and is hoping to get a little boost on their special day.

There was one slight mishap with the suitcase though. My curious 5 yr. old managed to lock the old fashioned 3 combo lock! So it eventually took some power tools to open and we were good to go..It just won’t lock..Oh well!

With the help of the most fabulous blog, The Graphics Fairy, I was able to find gorgeous vintage map printables. I used the program Picnic to type text over the map, and then cut out my triangles for the banner. After that I just hot glued them to my string.

Here is one of my thrifty pedestal picture fames used to display my “honeymoon fund” sign. I used a vintage currency printable also from The Graphics Fairy.

I also printed out some of her vintage post cards…I love love love these!!!

I am so excited to see my little suitcase at the wedding!!

P.S I borrowed this great quote from Queenie and made this from Graphics Fairy clip art & Picnic :)

I just love this idea...and how you executed it. Now you've got me thinking about other ways to create altered art from old suitcases (just what I need...another project!). Thanks for a great post and Best Wishes to your brother and is fiancee.

Some friends of ours registered at a place called travelersjoy.com where you can ask your guests to donate toward your honeymoon. I thought it was a great idea, especially when you already have a blender, you know? LOL!

So did they get money? My fiancé and I wanted to do this for our wedding but we have been met with mixed reactions. My fiance's side feels it lacks tact but I think it's a good idea. Just wondering if another person had success. :)
