3rd Birthday Party Satin Flower Wreath

Yep I am pretty excited for my little girl's birthday. Funny how I am no longer excited for my own birthday and it all transfers to the kids! Ha :)

Here is another decoration I have created for her Glam Dora party this week!

First I cut a number "3" from a circular piece of Styrofoam. Then made a bunch of those same burnt satin flowers I made for my spring wreath. Go here for that tutorial & post. Then I just pinned my flowers and embellished my new to me wreath stand (Goodwill $3.99) with ribbon, tulle, and a tiny white scroll-y "L".

If you haven't already check out some of my other goodies for her party from my previous post :0)

Glam Dora Birthday Party Decorations

My daughter is crazy for Dora! She can go an entire episode and repeat/do everything Dora says....I try talking in Dora voice and it doesn't work! So when I asked her about 6 months ago what type of party she wanted for the big "3" I wasn't surprised to hear "Dooowwwa!" It'll be hard to top last years Elmo party, but I think we will! I love "boutique style" glam parties !!

Here is a sneak peek at some of the decorations I have been working on this week.

The first thing I'd like to show you is my great Goodwill find turned ribbon cake plate.

The plate was $3.99 and the cup $.99. After gluing with E600, I added some matching ribbon for the party.

I can either use it for food, or I thought my pinwheel bouquet looks great on top of it!

The little pinwheels where on sale for $.49 at Hobby Lobby and the pail was from Michael's at $2.99. I added ribbon and tulle for embellishment.

By far I have spent the longest time on her banner. This is because I don't have a fancy cutting machine and did all the tracing, stenciling and cutting by hand!! I figured out you can make a scalloped circle by just folding a circle in 1/8ths and rounding the edges.

Ok so this is my first time making party and they are actually harder than they look!!! It took me hours because I tried to find a template online and none worked. Plus I like the bigger size hats. So now I know to use a 12x12 paper and cut a template that looks like my blue piece of paper. After that you just roll them up and tape. I used decorative trim and feathers at the top to embellish.

This cute purple mirror is from Hobby Lobby on sale this week for $5.99. I have a bunch of wall decals that I found for $4.00 on clearance from Target and Boots is who I chose for the mirror.

I made the Dora subway art from Picnic (I am obsessed with Picnic photo editing by the way)! I came across the Dora subway art idea from At Second Street.

I also added ribbon straps to the Glam Dora Backpack Invitations I made.

Whew I am tired after all that...are you?

Hope you enjoyed...I will post the entire party after it happens next week!

xoxo

Thanks A Latte from "Skip to My Lou"

Teacher appreciation week is coming up soon May 2-6, and this is what my son will be giving his preschool teachers. I found this idea from Skip to My Lou. Just go there for the free printable. They have some outstanding ideas for teachers this year!

For mine I used their cute printable on a full sheet of card stock and attached the front of a Starbucks cardboard sleeve (just ask..they will give you some). I hot glued a raffia bow to the front and placed a $5 Starbucks gift card in the sleeve. So easy and super cute, right?!

Teachers have one of the toughest, most important roles in our lives and yet are so unrecognized, don't you think? I Hope this puts a smile on their faces!!

This would also be fantastic to use in the workplace!

Best Goodwill in Phoenix Reveal & Thank You!

Hi all! Today I reached 200 followers on this Fancy Frugal blog of mine! Thanks to Angie from Thrifty Like Me for pointing out she was my 200th! very cute blog by the way...check it out :) And thanks to all of you out there for the sweet comments and support over the last few months. I am new and still learning, but loving every bit! And by the way still a little sad I missed out on that Creative Estates blogging conference that was here this past weekend! Boo-maybe next time?!

To celebrate I am revealing the my 3 top fav thrift stores in my area (Phoenix-Ahwatukee). many have asked and now I am spilling! lol We moved back to the Phoenix area after a 2.5 yrs in Las Vegas and I am now addicted to thrifting. I think it is because I am a bargain hunter at heart and am constantly challenging myself to spend less while still loving nice quality stuff!

1. Goodwill (32nd St & Chandler Blvd) 15633 S 32nd St Phoenix, AZ
(I call this one my super secret hidden GW because it is never crowded and very "unshopped". They separate the designer clothes and its always clean.) This is 5 min from me so I am here at least 3 times a week! Most of my finds are from here. You should see the nice furniture that comes through here!

2. Goodwill (32nd st & Cactus Rd) 12010 N. 32nd St, Phoenix
This is a brand new location! And it rocks!!! It's super big and clean. I just discovered it last weekend and found a Gap dress, 2 shirts and 2 skirts for less that $14.00!!

3. Tiedemann's Family Thrift & Vintage 755 W Baseline Rd, Tempe, AZ 85283-1108
This store is super fun and the prices are fantastic. It is a treasure hunt for sure, but clean and people are nice. They have an entire rack of Tommy Bahama men's shirts at $5.00 each. I bought 3 and one still had original tags ($96.00 originally).

So there you go!! Leave some stuff for me :) I am the one with the screaming 2 year old!

Also did you know there are 20% off coupons for Goodwill of AZ? Go here to sign up! Every other Sat the whole store is 50% off!

Most of my thrifty projects are purchases from these stores, but here are some pics of the many great finds in just the last few months!

Burberry dress shirt (with dry cleaner tags!) $6.00. Doesn't he look thrilled? hehe

And here are those $5.00 Tommy Bahama Shirts

Very Nice heavy iron candle holder $9.00

Those great wall sconces $10.00 each.

Goodwill Mantle...$10.00

Baby Gap lot 5 pieces $14.00

Gymboree skirt & hat $4.00

New looking Spiderman bike for G man $6.00

Hope this is helpful!

Toy Box Makeover & Surfboard Wall Art

My son's cute surfer room has a couple of additions. The first is a hand me down toy box that was my younger brother's. It was just a plain wood toy box with a train painting on the top. It really does hold a lot of storage so I wanted to give it a makeover!

This is the only before pic I can find, right after we (well my talented hubby) cut the mdf bead board and nailed around the box.

After a whole lot of sanding on the top it got two coats of primer and then the color Popcorn by Behr.

I tried Faux Glazing for the first time. I mixed the glaze with a darker color paint and then painted the grooves, while wiping off the excess. Um ya I think this might have been a little advanced for me. I kept thinking it looked like a mess of smeared brown paint...but then when it was all done and dry...not bad! way better than what we started with.

Then for a more polished look I sprayed a cute letter G with red spray paint and glued on.

It fits in so great with the beachy feel of his room! I found that anchor for $3.99 @ Goodwill. The sweet photo canvass I have had for a few years of my two fav boys on a trip to the Oregon coast.

Also I found this tiny wood surf board already hand painted at my Goodwill for $1.99. I already had an old gold frame not in use, sprayed it white, and hung the surfboard in there!

Goes great with the clearance HomeGoods lamp on his nightstand :)
